2020Second Edition of e-Ananse Spelling Bee Takes off
The second edition of e-Ananse spelling bee contest designed to give students the platform to enhance their learning abilities is scheduled to begin Saturday August 22, this year.
The four-week event will take place at the Osu branch of the E-Ananse libraries.
In all, 8 students from 8 schools would have the opportunity to battle each other the grand prize.
The maiden edition of the contest which was held in July, this year, saw a 13-year old student, Ms Gloria Owusu from an Accra-based school, Father’s Legacy International, crowned the overall winner.
Ms Owusu emerged the winner after she beat competition from seven (7) contenders in a 4-week spelling bee battle held at the Osu branch of e-Ananse library.
The event, which was organized online, was witnessed by parents and guidance’s of the students and viewed live on the various e- Ananse library social media platforms on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
In all, eight competitors from the upper primary to Junior High School were selected from different schools to participate in the contest.
The schools were Grace preparatory school, Mary Star of the sea international school, Afah Joy international school, Beeston Montessori School, Queen Rita Academy, West End international school and Christside international school.
The event was organised by the e- Ananse library to help enhance the learning abilities of students, especially in the wake of the global corona virus pandemic that has brought school activities to a temporary halt.
In her short statement, the Head of the organizing team, Ms Constance N.Y Kamako lauded the winner and as well as those who participated in the contest.
She said the event was designed to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies and develop correct English usage that would enhance their mastering of grammar.
The Head master of Fathers Legacy International School, Mr Emmanuel Sarpong expressed his gratitude to the management of e-Ananse libraries and lauded them for a great program organized.
He mentioned that the winner of the contest, Ms Owusu had been awarded half scholarship from the school until she completes.
For his part, the father of the winner Mr Isaac Owusu. was also of much praises to the organizers for putting together the initiative at a period where corona virus had brough academic activities to halt.
The second edition promises to be very exciting , informative and educative.
